The Olga Kern International Piano Competition is honored to have David Earl compose music for the 2019 Piano Competition.

David Earl is a wonderful South African/British composer and pianist. I met David when my brother, conductor Vladimir Kern, conducted his Second Piano Concerto with David as soloist in Cape Town with the Cape Town Philharmonic in 2007. The composition was fresh, romantic, and very well done pianistically. The sold-out concert was very successful. Since that time, I have continued to hear about David’s wonderful works. As a pianist, he keeps a very busy concert schedule, performing in many important places throughout the world. He is also a wonderful teacher, teaching piano at Cambridge University and supervising Tripos composition students. I am so happy that David Earl composed the required piece, “Metta Bhavana,” for the 2nd Olga Kern International Piano Competition. I am sure that the participants, jurors, and audience will all equally enjoy this new work, and we are all appreciative of David’s contribution to the OKIPC.
