Alice Burla, Canada

Alice Burla is recognized for her vibrant musicianship and imaginative repertoire choices. Hailed as an “extraordinary talent” by The New York Times, she was named a prizewinner of the 17th Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in 2025, receiving the Patricia and Neal Steffen Family Jury Discretionary Award. Her performances were praised by Gramophone Magazine as “replete with sophisticated balances … unfettered freedom … and ear-catching textural diversity.”

She has appeared on major stages around the world, including Tonhalle Zürich, Victoria Hall in Geneva, Dubai Opera, Carnegie Hall, and Teatro La Fenice. Her orchestral engagements have included performances with the Sinfonieorchester Basel, Argovia Philharmonic, Schweizer Jugend-Sinfonie-Orchester, and Donetsk Philharmonic Orchestra.

Burla has also performed at the World Economic Forum in Geneva on behalf of the Swiss humanitarian organization Medair and was a featured gala artist at the 40th Festival Internacional de Piano UIS in Colombia. Born in Toronto, Burla was one of the youngest students ever accepted to The Juilliard School at age 6. In 2013, she began conservatory studies in Madrid with Dmitri Bashkirov at the Escuela Superior de Música Reina Sofía. In 2016, she moved to Switzerland to study with Claudio Martínez Mehner and Anton Kernjak at the Musik-Akademie Basel, where she completed both her Bachelor’s and soloist Master’s degrees with distinction.
